What is breast hyperplasia?

Breast hyperplasia is the abnormal growth of mammary skin cells and tissues, the structural deterioration of mammary duct and lobules as well as progressive growth of connective tissues. Breast hyperplasia is mainly caused by hormonal imbalance.

Who might encounter breast hyperplasia?

  • Historical occurrence of cancer in family
  • Higher rate of occurrence between 40 years old to 60 years old
  • Condition of menstrual cycle: first menstrual period occurs before 11-13 years old, menstrual period still occurs beyond 55 years old
  • Fertility situation: First childbirth occurs beyond 35 years old, never before breastfeeds

Historical occurrence of cancer in family

Historical occurrence in family of breasts cancer or contralateral breasts cancer especially if their mother or female siblings are breasts cancer patients may cause the rate of occurrence of breast hyperplasia to be two or three times higher than healthy women.

Higher rate of occurrence between 40 years old to 60 years old

The period between 40 years old and 60 years old for women is when the secretion of oestrogen in body is at its peak hence the rate of occurrence increases with age. Most gynecological disorders are partly caused by hormonal imbalance, overproduction of oestrogen and accumulation of metabolic waste products in the body.

Condition of menstrual cycle: first menstrual period occurs before 11-13 years old, menstrual period still occurs after 55 years old

Women with premature first occurrence of menstrual period and late menopause have higher level of oestrogen in the body thus leading to higher rate of occurrence of breast hyperplasia. Women with first menstrual period occurring between 11 years old to 13 years old may face risk of breast hyperplasia two or three times higher than women with with first menstrual period occurring at 17 years old. The risk of breast hyperplasia for women still experiencing menstrual period beyond 55 years old is three times higher than women who had their menopause at 45 years old or younger.

Fertility situation: first childbirth occurs beyond 35 years old, never before breastfeeds

Women who gave birth at later age or never gave birth and breastfeeds at all have higher risk of breast hyperplasia occurrence. Adult women’s natural hormonal production during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding can prevent occurrence of breast hyperplasia effectively; unmarried women with light growth of mammary glands may find the growth situation of mammary glands slows down after internal hormonal production during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  • Bad dietary habits

Foods containing high level of calories, cholesterols, salt and other chemical compounds as well as high level of xanthines from coffee, cocoa and chocolate may stimulate excess production of oestrogen leading to breast hyperplasia. Meanwhile, for women who drink liquor 3-6 times per week, each time consuming 250ml of beer or 180ml of spirit, the rate of breasts cancer occurrence increases 30%-60%.

  • Psychological factors

Women experiencing prolonged negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, nervousness, and apprehensiveness may suppress ovulation in ovaries thus leading to decrease of pregesterone and increase of oestrogen thus leading to breast hyperplasia.

Myocardial infarch, angina pectoris, mitral valve prolapse and other heart problems are often mistaken as breast pain. Sometimes it’s just stomachache but nerve conduction reflected it as breast pain. Some people suffer long-term flu and coughing, causing pleurisy but it’s thought to be breast problem.
